1973: Blue Streak – What Remains of Britain’s Rocket? | Nationwide

John Swinfield reports from the abandoned rocket base at Spadeadam, near Carlisle. Spadeadam was previously the testing site of the Blue Streak rocket – originally planned as a replacement for Britain’s V bomber nuclear deterrent, and subsequently repurposed as the first stage of the European Launcher Development Organisation’s space research vehicle, Europa-1.

Government support for the space program ended recently. What will become of Blue Streak, and Spadeadam? What will the workforce do now?
