Tory MP on the back foot over child poverty claims | LBC
Shadow minister Kevin Hollinrake is quizzed by Ben Kentish about the 600,000 more children living in poverty under Tories in 14 years.
“You’re picking one statistic. Look at absolute poverty. It’s a much better measure, a much more accurate measure,” Mr Hollinrake responded.
This comes as Nigel Farage is set to commit to restoring the winter fuel payment to all pensioners and to scrapping the two-child benefit cap.
The Reform UK leader is expected to appeal to left-wing voters with the moves in a speech next week.
The Tory MP says the winter fuel payment should ‘absolutely’ be re-instated to ‘reverse the change rapidly’. After implementing this, he believes the means-testing element should then be revised.
