‘Unacceptable’: Epping councillor criticises Home Office asylum stance
Nick Ferrari is joined by leader of Epping Forest District Council, Chris Whitbread, and immigration lawyer, Jacqueline McKenzie, to discuss the latest stage of a legal battle over a controversial asylum hotel in Epping.
Epping Forest District Council has been granted an interim injunction by the High Court, stopping the hotel’s owner, Somani Hotels, from using the hotel to accommodate asylum seekers beyond September 12.
Anti-immigration protests first began after an asylum seeker staying there, Hadush Gerberslasie Kebatu, was charged with sexually assaulting a 14-year-old girl last month.
Chris Whitbread criticises the UK government for housing asylum seekers at the Bell Hotel in Epping. He argues it prioritises migrants over local residents, especially with schools reopening nearby.
