Masked Muslim youths have taken to the streets of east London to defend their community, after police banned a planned UKIP protest in Whitechapel.
The demonstrators, many dressed in black and waving Bangladesh and Palestine flags, vowed to protect their elders, women, and neighbourhood from far-right protesters who claim they are coming on a “crusade” to “take back the streets.”
Speakers at the counter-protest have stressed unity and condemned the far-right march, which police restrict under the Public Order Act to prevent serious disorder.
Meanwhile, around 75 UKIP supporters gathered in Kensington, carrying Union Jacks, crosses, and banners with anti-Islamist messages. They marched to Marble Arch, chanting slogans against Islamism and Communism.
