“What Has Gone Wrong In Policing” | Ex-Met Chief SLAMS £5M Wasted on Police Diversity Schemes

The Metropolitan Police is set to spend £5.2 million annually on 64 diversity and inclusion staff, even as frontline services face severe cuts amid a £250 million funding gap. The force maintains a wide range of inclusivity programmes, including awareness weeks and support networks for various identities, ethnicities, and religions. Critics, including politicians and campaigners, argue that taxpayer money should prioritise policing and public safety rather than funding what they describe as a “woke bureaucracy.”

Meanwhile, close to half of the Met’s mounted officers face job losses as part of broader cost-cutting measures. The force plans to reduce its horses from 93 to 40, cut 69 officers and 10 support staff, and close five of its seven stable blocks. The Met insists these decisions are necessary to prioritise resources for high-crime areas, though the cuts add to growing concerns over reduced policing services in London.
