Ukraine devastates two Russian ‘shadow fleet’ ships with naval drones
Ukraine has struck two ‘shadow fleet’ Russian oil tankers, setting them ablaze in the Black Sea.
Ukraine used naval drones, which are unmanned boats packed with explosives, used in a kamikaze-style attack.
Russia’s ‘shadow fleet’ is an unregulated group of up to 100 ships continuing the country’s crude oil shipments, helping fund its war machine.
The ships, the Kairos and Virat, were sanctioned oil tankers travelling to Novorossiysk, a major Russian Black Sea oil terminal.
The attack from Ukraine is part of recent efforts to increase pressure on Russia’s oil export market.
