A pensioner living with dementia has been found guilty of failing to keep up with his TV Licence payments, marking another instance of severe outcomes under the Single Justice Procedure.
The 69-year-old was taken to court by TV Licensing earlier this month for the unpaid fee, resulting in a criminal conviction.
In a letter to the court, he explained that he lives alone and had fallen behind on bills and slipped into debt as his health worsened and his mental capacity declined.
His daughter, a single mother who now holds power of attorney for his finances, had been overwhelmed and inadvertently missed the TV Licence payment, he said.
Talk’s Kevin O’Sullivan is joined by international editor Isabel Oakeshott to discuss the story and more.
