Graduate job vacancies are the worst on record. Seventy percent of first-time buyers are graduates, and Adzuna had 4,000 vacancies for 400,000 people leaving university — a hundred graduates for every job. Propertymark says 84% of properties are not reaching asking price and only 9% are selling above; agents reported just 9% achieved asking in June. The BBC put out a misleading video that treats the cause of high house prices as the solution. Zoopla’s August index has yearly house-price growth slowing to 0.9% from 1.3%. Searches are 7% higher than a year ago, but sales agreed are still 6% lower, inquiries 16% lower, and higher mortgage rates have cut buyers’ purchasing power by 9% since January. BestAgent has added an advisory board, including Rory Sutherland.
