Carney pitches “unique alliance” with EU amid ongoing Canada-US trade war

Could Canada become more European? That’s a question Prime Minister Mark Carney raised when he recently spoke about a deepening relationship with the EU.

The discussion about a new partnership between Canada and the EU comes as the Union is opening a new diplomatic office in Ottawa, and many anticipate more details when Mark Carney formally addresses the European Parliament on Thursday.

“We’re not looking to become a member of the European Union,” Carney said Sunday, adding that “discussions for a unique alliance,” are on the horizon.
