How Starmer’s Leadership Is Failing

Keirstarmer the deeply uncharismatic Prime Minister of the United Kingdom is out of his depth. He faces a collapse of support much of which has transferred to #reformuk of #nigelfarage . He has a net popularity rating of -47% according to a YouGov poll last month.
His decision four years ago to never consider trying to rejoin the #eu the Customs Union or the Single Market or agree to any Freedom of Movement and making these his #redlines was foolish especially given the disastrous consequences of #brexit.
The #ukeconomy is not growing and it is uncertaian as to where any growth might come from. The UK has some of the highest electricity and house prices in the world. The average price of a house in the UK has risen from £88,000 in 1998 to £270,000 in 2023. The cost of housing is a big problem for economic recovery.
Starmer has not repealed the Draconian Public Order Act of Tory Home Secretary Suella Braverman. Recently at a gathering of 150,000 supporters of thug and rabble rouser #tommyrobinson just 24 arrests were made despite widespread fighting with Police. At a Palesttine Action demonstration which attracted just 2,000 people 857 arrests were made, many of them old people.
Starmer’s judgement of character also seems flawed. Sue Gray brought as chief of staff in No 10 lsted a few weeks, Peter Mandelson was appointed Ambassador to the US before being properly vetted and subsequently had to resign. There have been several other avoidable ministerial resignations.
If an election were held today it is likely that Farage and Reform UK would win easily. At the same time that Starmer is losing support #jeremycorbyn is attracting votes from the left.
Labour need a new leader and my best for the best candidate would be Darren Jones but, in any event, it seems quite likely that Starmer will last much longer.
