‘I get it’: Keir Starmer responds to Reform’s by-election ‘triumph’ | LBC
Sir Keir Starmer and Kemi Badenoch face pressure to reverse their parties’ fortunes after the local elections saw Reform UK make major gains across England.
Prime Minister Keir Starmer said on Friday: “We promised change at the last election and we’re getting on and delivering that change.” He pointed to waiting lists and interest rates coming down, but acknowledged the change needs to be delivered “further and faster.”
But rather than pushing down on the accelerator, his own re-elected Mayor for Doncaster, Ros Jones, say it’s a change of direction that’s needed:
“I think they [the government] need to look again as putting up the cost of national insurance is hitting some of the smaller businesses and of course the PIP which many people are worried about now.”
Nigel Farage hailed the results as “the end of two-party politics” and “the death of the Conservative Party” as Reform picked up 10 councils and more than 600 seats in Thursday’s poll.
Matthew Wright is joined by Labour MP Richard Burgon and former Labour adviser Stella Tsantekidou to discuss Reform’s gains.
