Recent video from outside Figure AI’s San Jose headquarters shows multiple humanoid robots navigating the campus grounds without any human supervisors present. The company, which builds general-purpose humanoids, is currently testing its hardware outside of controlled laboratory environments.
By allowing the machines to walk across parking lots and handle unpredictable outdoor terrain, engineers are evaluating their balance and reinforcement learning systems in real-world conditions. This phase of outdoor testing is designed to gather data on the robots’ physical autonomy as the company begins to scale up its manufacturing operations.
