Among those expressing their views was Stourbridge MP Cat Eccles, who remarked that her resignation is a significant loss for the nation.
In her statement, Cat Eccles MP said: “Angela Rayner has stepped down from her roles as Deputy Prime Minister and Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government.
“This represents a major loss for our government, the party, and the country.
“Angela has consistently been a dedicated advocate for working individuals and a supporter of women’s rights, and I have no doubt she will continue her efforts from the backbenches.” Ms. Rayner’s resignation prompted a major cabinet reshuffle and initiated a competition to determine who will be the new Deputy Labour Leader.
Candidates for the position include Education Secretary Bridget Phillipson, former Leader of the Commons Lucy Powell, Chair of the Commons Foreign Affairs Committee Dame Emily Thornberry, and backbench MPs Bell Ribeiro-Addy and Paula Barker.
