Nigeria says US strike not related to “particular region” after targeted attack on Islamic militants

Nigeria’s government says it cooperated with the United States in airstrikes targeting Islamic militants in the country’s northwest.

The Christmas Day attack hit sites in the northwestern Sokoto State. U.S. President Donald Trump says the strikes were aimed at the so-called Islamic State – which he claims is primarily targeting Christians in Africa’s most populous nation.

Nigeria’s foreign minister, however, says the operation had nothing to do with a particular religion, and data suggests militant attacks are targeting Muslims and Christians alike.
