Reform UK achieved an impressive victory by winning six council by-elections overnight, falling just 63 votes short of a complete sweep of all seven contested seats. The party started strong by retaining a seat on the Isle of Wight, garnering 36.7% of the vote after the resignation of the previous councillor.
They then took the Hutton South ward from the Conservatives in Brentwood, experiencing a significant 30.2-point swing, despite not having previously contested that area. Both the Conservatives and Labour saw their support drop by 14.5 points each. Reform UK also narrowly won the Strawberry ward in Cheshire West, securing 32% of the vote without any campaigning during the by-election, just 63 votes behind Labour.
In Wigan Central, the party flipped the seat from Labour, achieving 47.2% of the vote despite not having contested it in the previous election. Perhaps the most remarkable result occurred in Maidstone, Kent, where Reform UK won all three councillor positions in the Harrietsham, Lenham & North Downs ward by a significant margin, with each candidate receiving around 1,200 votes compared to just 450 for the second-place Greens.
