Chancellor Rachel Reeves has admitted to renting out her South London home without the required £945 licence.
She informed Prime Minister Keir Starmer and parliamentary ethics officers as soon as the oversight was discovered and has since applied for the licence.
Rachel Reeves’s spokesperson said she had not been made aware by her letting agency that her property fell within a licenced area.
Starmer, after consulting the independent adviser on ministerial standards, said no further investigation was necessary, citing her prompt action and apology.
The incident has drawn criticism from opposition politicians, who warn it could undermine confidence ahead of her upcoming budget, particularly given her previous property tax policies.
