‘That is outrageous!’
Shadow Foreign Secretary Priti Patel has slammed the BBC’s decision to platform an illegal migrant on Question Time, accusing the broadcaster of ‘fuelling’ the issue in a fiery interview with GB News’ Beverley Turner.
On Digital ID, Sir Keir Starmer has previously said: ‘A new digital ID scheme will help combat illegal working while making it easier for the vast majority of people to use vital government services.’ On the issue of facial recognition, Policing and Crime Minister, Sarah Jones said that, though there were “legitimate concerns” about the technology, she believed a wider roll-out could mark “the biggest breakthrough” in catching criminals. On the issue of scrapping Jury trials, David Lammy has previously stated that the changes are needed because ‘the previous government had cut court sitting days’, adding that ‘magistrates already deal with the vast majority of UK trials’. On the issue of BBC Question Time, a spokesperson told GB News: ‘As immigration continues to be a primary concern for people in the UK, Question Time held a special episode in Dover with panellists from across the political spectrum and a local audience with a range of views and experiences. Over 20 audience members asked questions and contributed to the debate – including two people with direct experience of the asylum system in the UK who have been granted refugee status.’ On claims made by Priti Patel that the BBC is the ‘Hamas Broadcasting Corporation’, a spokesperson has previously stated that: ‘Where mistakes have been made, or errors have occurred, we have acknowledged them at the time and taken action… We have also previously acknowledged that certain contributors should not have been used and have improved our processes to avoid a repeat of this.’C GB News has also contacted the BBC over allegations that the corporation crafted a misleading narrative around illegal migration during Priti Patel’s time in office. A spokesperson told us: ‘The BBC is committed to reporting the topic of immigration accurately and impartially. We are not aware of the instances being referred to but if there are specific examples bought to us, we will look into them.’ On the issue of delaying mayoral elections, the government argues that more time is needed to reorganise local government, adding that various arrangements are being put in place to ensure all elections can take place at the right time.
