Police rush to London migrant hotel as HEATED protests reignite
Protesters against the use of migrant hotels gathered outside two high-profile sites on Sunday afternoon and evening.
Demonstrations were held near the Britannia Hotel in Canary Wharf, London, and The Bell Hotel in Epping, Essex, which are both being used to house asylum seekers.
There was large police presence in the Canary Wharf area, with the Metropolitan Police imposing conditions using Section 14 of the Public Order Act to “prevent serious disruption” at the protests outside the Britannia Hotel.
At around 5.30pm, the force said the “majority” of the protesters had left and there had been six arrests. Essex Police said the protest in Epping was “peaceful” and no arrests were made.
