Shock Rise in UK Unemployment

The latest jobs report confirmed what many workers and business have been saying in private, the UK job market is worsening, with a rise in unemployment to 5%, the highest level since Covid 2021 and also a fall in vacancies. The labour market is also still struggling with higher rates of long-term sickness, meaning 4.6 million are out of work through either unemployment or sickness, which is reaching a similar peak to the 2011 recession.
