The King of the North is now Prime Minister of the whole country, and according to Andy Burnham, economic failure in the north isn’t just bad for there, “it’s bad for everywhere”.
Official data shows people in the south east pay more in tax than the Government spends there. More gets sent north.
Broadcaster Terry Christian – born in, and resident of, Manchester – says we need to spend more in the north to make it fair. But business owner Claudia Hearne – born in Yorkshire but who lives in London – says we shouldn’t treat the north as a ‘charity case’.
