“Tax Is In Labour’s DNA” | ‘Cash Grab’ As Government Plan ‘Tourist Tax’ Over Summer
Families could be forced to pay hundreds of pounds more for UK holidays under Labour plans to let mayors and councils bring in tourist taxes. Popular staycation spots including seaside towns, beauty spots and historic cities could all be hit, with the extra charge added to hotels, campsites and B&Bs. Critics say it is a cash grab from struggling families and a blow to British tourism, while supporters claim councils need the money to improve local services. If introduced at higher rates, the tax could add a huge amount to the cost of a normal family break in Britain.
Mark Dolan speaks with Tory councillor, Matthew Goodwin-Freeman.
