In a special programme from ITV Calendar, two friends have recalled how the MP Jo Cox told them “let him hurt me” as they tried in vain to prevent her murder at the hands of a far right extremist.
Mother-of-two Mrs Cox died after being shot and stabbed by neo-Nazi Thomas Mair in her Batley and Spen constituency on 16 June 2016.
Sandra Major and Fazila Aswat, who were the MP’s assistants at the time, were with her when she was attacked in Market Street, in daylight, before a constituency surgery.
