The ‘regressive reality’ of UK’s child poverty crisis | LBC

Health professor Sir Michael Marmot joins Andrew Marr to discuss why the UK has some of the worst child health outcomes in Europe. He points to a sharp rise in child poverty, faster than in any other rich country between 2010 and 2020, driven by austerity, cuts to local government, and regressive changes to the tax and benefits system. Marmot stresses the importance of the first 1,000 days of life and praises some local communities for taking action where national policy has failed. “Out of 38 rich countries… the UK had the fastest increase in child poverty from 2010 to 2020. “We need to give every child the best start in life,” he stresses. #andrewmarr #childpoverty #LBC #michaelmarmot Credit to : LBC
