New ONS data shows net migration drops sharply as more Brits leave the UK and fewer people arrive to work or study, with the net figure rising by 204,000 in the year to June 2025 but still far below the peaks of 2023 and 2024.
The fall is mainly caused by growing emigration, including a rising “brain drain” of young people and a “wealth exodus” of high earners looking for better conditions abroad.
