Ricky Gervais shared a series of jokes for Dutch Barn vodka ads on social media, claiming they were rejected from London Underground stations. One ad read: “Welcome to London. Don’t forget your stab vest,” prompting backlash and false claims that Gervais paid for the ads and that Mayor Sadiq Khan had them removed.
TfL responded, saying they never received the ads for approval and that alternative Dutch Barn creatives are currently running. Gervais also posted other tongue-in-cheek slogans like “One day you’ll be underground for good” and “Your tube driver’s favourite drink in the morning,” which drew mixed reactions – some fans praised them, others called them insensitive.
